What is a Concentrator?
A concentration system is a device used to increase the concentration of specific components in a liquid by removing unnecessary elements such as water or solvents. It primarily utilizes methods such as heating, vacuum, or membrane separation to efficiently concentrate target substances. These systems are widely used in industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, beverages, and cosmetics. Typical applications include juice concentration, herbal extract processing, and intermediate pharmaceutical product refinement.
Concentration improves transportation efficiency, product shelf life, and simplifies the next production steps. Common types include vacuum concentrators, multiple-effect evaporators, and membrane concentration units, selected based on the properties and purpose of the material. Vacuum types are especially useful for heat-sensitive materials, enabling low-temperature processing. Concentration systems are essential equipment that balance both efficiency and product quality.
Application of Concentrator
✅ Concentration and Volume Reduction of Wastewater (Chemical & Environmental Fields)
Water is removed from wastewater generated in factories to reduce the volume requiring treatment. This reduces disposal costs and mitigates environmental impact. Concentrators play a crucial role especially in treating liquids containing hazardous substances or heavy metals.
✅ Concentration of Fruit Juice (Food Industry)
Juices like orange or apple juice are heated or vacuum-concentrated to remove water and produce concentrated juice. This process reduces transportation costs and improves shelf life.
✅ Extraction and Concentration of Herbal Medicine or Plant Extracts (Pharmaceutical & Health Food Industries)
Active ingredients extracted from plants are concentrated for use in supplements or traditional herbal medicines. Vacuum concentration at low temperatures is often used to protect heat-sensitive compounds.
✅ Concentration of Lactose and Protein from Milk (Dairy Industry)
Before producing cheese or yogurt, water is removed from milk to efficiently concentrate proteins and lactose. Physical concentration methods such as membrane filtration (RO/UF) are also utilized.
